User Experience Design (UXD, UED), Interaction Design (IxD), User Interface (UI) Design along with other web/application design experts make use of the words User Experience Design talks about the careful use of particular user-centered design methods, a very contextual design mindset, and utilization of particular techniques and methods which are employed in the process management to create cohesive, predictable, and appealing effects within a particular person, or character (archetype made up of audience behavior and qualities). All in order that the effects created to satisfy the user’s personal objectives and measures of success and pleasure, and also the goals of the providing organization.
It’s not the sole meaning of User Experience Design. The term was created by Don Norman when he was Vice President of the Advanced Technology Group at Apple. On his own words: “I created the term since I thought the human interface and usability were too small. I want to cover up every aspect of the person’s experience with this system which includes graphics, industrial design, the physical interaction the interface, as well as the manual. Since that time the term has passed on exponentially, very much making it beginning to lose its meaning… user experience, human-centered style, functionality; those things, even affordances. They simply entered the vocabulary and no more have any special meaning. People utilize them frequently with no any idea why, exactly what the word means, its own origin, history, or exactly what it is about.”
Considering the constant level of confusion regarding the concept of User Experience Design, defining it of what it isn’t could be of help. It isn’t a trendy new term for, or in any manner associated with
- Website design
- User-centered design
- Human factors engineering
- User interface (UI) design
- Information architecture (IA)
- Interaction design (IxD)
- Usability testing
- Customer satisfaction
The most typical or default meaning of User Experience, of something that we expect another will experience when using the interactive system, also falls far lacking usefulness. A meaning of it that doesn’t encapsulate within it particular techniques, methods, and success metrics, isn’t helpful to designers, producers, or even managers. The user-centered mentality is essential for the success of the interactive system, thus maybe the term is better used inadequately than not at all. However, just like any definition, the more exact and widely agreed, the higher power and utility it offers us.
A User’s Eye View of User Experience Design
Being a web/software designer, the idea of User Experience Design was attained in 1999, just before finding that of Norman or Garrett. It’s borrowed from the style of linguistics: User Experience Design being an artificial, compound language, or pidgin, arising from the combination and synthesis of different discrete vocabularies, that are apprehended by the user concurrently as one.
To let you know what I’m saying, let me create Garrett’s diagram, and change the perspective, so we could see how by looking on it coming from a user’s perspective, rather than as a development process, the components of user experience arise singularly in the mind’s eye:
A result of comprehensive User Experience Design is a manipulated design vocabulary which could then be relevant to numerous related communication media for various purposes in a way that their whole results in the meant overall experience of a person, or group. Essentially, this synthesis makes a cohesive Gestalt pattern registered both consciously and sub-consciously by the user, so that the entire expresses, and equals, greater than a number of parts.
